The Nicest Thing

The nicest thing happened to me yesterday, in the form of a little mailbox love.

You all know how wonderful it is to receive packages in the mail.  Well this one had a couple unexpected extras!

Do you remember the gorgeous tile necklaces Traveling Longhorns made for Dandy?  I adored them, especially this one:

So she made me one!!!  And sent it to me!!  She is so kind and generous.  You see, she believes that moms need shiny things too, when it's their babies' special days.  So in honor of the twins' upcoming 2nd birthdays, she sent me this beautiful piece.  I just love it.  I have at least 5 different outfits in my head that I've paired it with.

Now on to the two little surprises:

She also sent me these shirts she made!
So cute and crafty!
I was so impressed by her savvy sizing smarts too.
She somehow knew Dee needed a 24 month size and Bex
needed 2T.  I guess fellow moms just know.

Dee's 2 has watermelons on it.  Watermelons!!
Juicy, cute, perfectly pink watermelons!

Bexy's has flames.  And they're flickering up out of the pocket too!
So totally clever.
I love these shirts, and the necklace tile, and the fact that they were made with love by a sister in Christ that I've never even met.
The connections I make in the blogosphere never cease to amaze me.
Thank you so much Traveling Longhorns!

And.  As fellow moms would also know, the previous photos of the twins are only 3 of about 53.
I can't not post the following.
It's a glimpse into the journey we took to get to the above photos!

I said "can you love each other?" And this is what I got:

 They're just warming up here.

Then we had to notice the clouds.
"Cowds!  Mommy!!!  Cowds.  MOM.  MOM.  COWDS."

 Those were some amazing clouds.

Then they remembered they had really fascinating bellies.
 And belly buttons.

Believe it or not, that's not all of the photos in this journey.  But right now Blogger will only take me to a troubleshooting page when I try to upload more.  So I'll publish this for now and be back later!

From Orange Chair to Doily Flair

I had an orange chair.
A pleasantly quirky, orange child's chair.
Darling as it was, it's 50 years old and needed a little makeover.

I read a blog called Trey and Lucy.
She does all kinds of wonderfully crafty things, like projects including

So I took inspiration and did this:

Sentimentality makes me a little sad that the orange is gone...
It was a chair I grew up seeing in the basement of my Nana and Papa's house in the Carmel woods.
But I think this little chair turned out so sweet and girly!

This will go in Dee's big-girl room
(how can she be ready for that already??).

I could have sanded the edges and roughed it up here and there.
But I'm pretty sure Dee will do a fine job of that herself,
along with a little help from her siblings!

Showers of Blessings for Dandy, B and Peanut!

Dandy, I'm so excited to be "at" your virtual shower!!

I'm imagining a buffet table full of assorted bacon-wrapped treats
and little paper tricycles hanging from the ceiling.
Perfect!

Please imagine me with gorgeous, glossy, silky hair.  Thanks.

If we were really together, I'd give you a big squeeze, squeal at how cute you are, complement you on your shoes (which I know would be divine), and then start gushing about parenthood.  Because it's truly a blessing.  A gift!  I'm so delighted you and  B are about to experience it, in all it's gory, magical, sweet, ridiculous, overwhelming, humbling, joyful glory.  And I can't wait to follow every moment of it through your blog!

Sooo...I decided to make you something...

They're burp cloths.
Or tummy time cloths.
Or quick-I-gotta-change-you-on-the-floor-anywhere cloths.
Or my-goodness-you-drool-a-lot cloths.
Then when Peanut gets older, they're dust cloths!

Do not handle them with care.  Throw 'em in the car, step on 'em, wipe the spit up off the floor with 'em, then throw 'em in the washer.  That's what they're meant for.

So anyhow, I'm not so good at sewing...
So why do I continue to make these for my pregnant friends?
Well, the third trimester can be trying.  You're tired, you're hot, you're sweaty, you're cranky and if one more person says "wow, you look ready to pop!" you're just gonna deck them.  Or dissolve into some hot, sweaty tears.  Can I get an amen?

*crickets chirping*
*a tumbleweed rolls past*

Okay, so that was just me, all enormous and sweaty at 37 weeks.

But anyway.  Whatever your mood in the third trimester, I like to make people laugh.  And you'll laugh.  Oh my...you'll laugh.  As you inspect the "straight stitch" that looks more like the blueprints to a roller coaster.  A loopy one.  A nauseatingly loopy one.

And then your friend will drop by, see the burp cloths and say "oh, how cuuuute!  A five year old made you a gift!"  and then you'll laugh some more.

The fact that it's at the expense of my miserable sewing skills is all just part of the gift.
See?  I'm a giver.

I think this is my favorite fabric.
It's so boy.

Although I do love the frogs.
Peanut may have some in his pocket some day.

And this little triceratops, well he's just longing for a little spit up.

Well, this baby shower is just lovely.
I'm so glad I got to come!
As usual, I've eaten too much cake, and I'm stealing one of the centerpieces to take home.

Congratulations Dandy and B!
Peanut is blessed to be born to such amazing parents!

A Little Bit of Dee

Beautiful eyes and cheeks so delicious.

She is a chatterbox at times...

...coy and reflective at other times.

What a blessing this child is!
A precious gift from our Creator.

A Little Bit of Bex

My perfect child of God.

He is compelled to figure things out.

So bright and funny with garbled words and belly laughs.
