Dandy, I'm so excited to be "at" your virtual shower!!
I'm imagining a buffet table full of assorted bacon-wrapped treats
and little paper tricycles hanging from the ceiling.
Perfect!
Please imagine me with gorgeous, glossy, silky hair. Thanks.
If we were really together, I'd give you a big squeeze, squeal at how cute you are, complement you on your shoes (which I know would be divine), and then start gushing about parenthood. Because it's truly a blessing. A gift! I'm so delighted you and B are about to experience it, in all it's gory, magical, sweet, ridiculous, overwhelming, humbling, joyful glory. And I can't wait to follow every moment of it through your blog!
Sooo...I decided to make you something...
They're burp cloths.
Or tummy time cloths.
Or quick-I-gotta-change-you-on-the-floor-anywhere cloths.
Or my-goodness-you-drool-a-lot cloths.
Then when Peanut gets older, they're dust cloths!
Do not handle them with care. Throw 'em in the car, step on 'em, wipe the spit up off the floor with 'em, then throw 'em in the washer. That's what they're meant for.
So anyhow, I'm not so good at sewing...
So why do I continue to make these for my pregnant friends?
Well, the third trimester can be trying. You're tired, you're hot, you're sweaty, you're cranky and if one more person says "wow, you look ready to pop!" you're just gonna deck them. Or dissolve into some hot, sweaty tears. Can I get an amen?
*crickets chirping*
*a tumbleweed rolls past*
Okay, so that was just me, all enormous and sweaty at 37 weeks.
But anyway. Whatever your mood in the third trimester, I like to make people laugh. And you'll laugh. Oh my...you'll laugh. As you inspect the "straight stitch" that looks more like the blueprints to a roller coaster. A loopy one. A nauseatingly loopy one.
And then your friend will drop by, see the burp cloths and say "oh, how cuuuute! A five year old made you a gift!" and then you'll laugh some more.
The fact that it's at the expense of my miserable sewing skills is all just part of the gift.
See? I'm a giver.
I think this is my favorite fabric.
It's so boy.
Although I do love the frogs.
Peanut may have some in his pocket some day.
And this little triceratops, well he's just longing for a little spit up.
Well, this baby shower is just lovely.
I'm so glad I got to come!
As usual, I've eaten too much cake, and I'm stealing one of the centerpieces to take home.
Congratulations Dandy and B!
Peanut is blessed to be born to such amazing parents!

Yay! Those are so cute!
I haven't made anything yet, so I lamed out and bought something from her registry...
The hand-made goodie will be later!
Algebra ate all my time, alas.
Elle, I love the fabric you picked out! Soooo cute!
Isn't this fun?! I'm so happy for that girl and B, I can barely contain myself. That little Peanut is very blessed!
Came here from the shower (this is so fun!) and I'll give you a hearty Amen! Love the fabrics you chose, they are SO cute!
Amen, Sister!!
May I say that I think you are a genius!! I am so stealing this idea for all future expectant mommies in my family, or family of friends. I have a niece expecting in January, having a little girl. Guess what one of her gifts is gonna be. Oh yeah. Going to JoAnn's with my 40% off coupon this weekend! Did I say you're a genius?!!
LOVE those cloths! A virtual baby shower is so sweet! What a great idea!
{{{Squeal!!!}}} Those are adorable!! I had such great intentions of making something. Alas, the day approached much quicker than I expected!! :) You did a wonderful job on those... absolutely perfect, and I know they will be used to the max! -Tammy
I think those burp cloths are wonderful --crooked seams and all! At least you made something, which is more than I can say for myself! :)
Isn't this baby shower thingy fun?! I'm glad that Jana and Sasha organized this and we get to participate. :)
Those burp/slurp cloths are just adorable!! Almost makes me want to have another child......
BWAHAHAHAHAHAHA, I was just kidding on that last part.
Wasn't this just the most fun thing to be able to participate in?? I jumped out of bed this morning just to get on line to see what everyone was doing.
Chick! you are just classic HILARIOUSNESS at its finest, I laughed so dang hard. I love your gift, my sewing lines are NEVER straight and I blame it on my machine...srsly. Thanks for being a part of this its been a blast!
She's gonna love this. Those little burp rags are adorable!!
Oh Elle I love them! You have no idea how incredibly shocked I was this morning to find my virtual baby shower! It's been the most amazing day knowing that all of you bloggers that I love so dearly were thinking of me.
Thank you so very much my friend. You are amazing and I am so lucky to know you.
Oh see, now I'm getting all sniffly again.
Oh Elle, How adorable and useful. I'm so glad you tried some sewing, keep it up! I haven't decided if I'm ready to sell the pendants at this point I just make them for friends. I'll e-mail you to get your address so I can send you one.
I love Dandy's blog. And am so excited for her too! And those are adorable do-it-all cloths that you made. I love the truck print, it is very boy. But, you know, Dandy is going to care about the stiches when things are projectiled; I am sure she will just be glad to have a do-it-all cloth handy to do it all.
Those are cute...what a sweet gift!
Hasn't this been such fun? And, oh, you are exactly right. There is no joy like parenting.
You are so amazing, Linda. I love you. And I love my burp clothes you made me... believe it or not, they are my most favorite ones!! You're the best and I'm so glad we're family. :)
