Twin Entropic Forces (With Bat Sonar)

Seek and destroy.
That is their mission.
Their one-track-minds have homing devices
that can detect well-organized, tidy drawers and cabinets.
Not unlike bat sonar,
this homing device leads them to the
source of order with uncanny accuracy.
Once there, in a madcap frenzy,
(and with little regard for their mother's
neurotic need to maintain some (false) sense
of control), they create disorder.
Allow me to further explain this using
the laws of thermodynamics.
In particular, the 2nd law of thermodynamics.
Trust me, it will make perfect sense.
You see, the twins are thermodynamic.
(They are warm-bodied, and boy, are they in motion).
Specifically, they are entropic.
Stick with me here.
Entropy is a measure of disorder in the universe
or a measure of the unavailability of a
system’s energy to do work.
To spell it out, the twins create disorder.
I am the system.
I have no more energy and
am unavailable to do the work
required to clean up this disorder.
See? I told you. Perfect sense.

In 1865, Rudolf Clausius, a German physicist, stated that "the entropy of the universe tends to a maximum". Hmmm. I venture to say that we have not yet reached maximum entropy in this house. (Does this thought strike fear into my heart? Somewhat. Deep breath. Read on).

Furthermore, the second law of thermodynamics holds that as usable energy is irretrievably lost, disorganization, randomness and chaos increase. I ask you, dear reader,
what are the implications of this in my universe? Will disorganization, randomness and chaos increase as my usable energy is irretrievably lost?
You betcha. Is this the kind of disorganization, randomness and chaos that years from now I'll look back on and wax wistful about? You better believe it.
But in the meantime,
Jay installs child-safety cabinet and drawer locks.
Surely child-safety locks will not dampen
the twin entropic forces of Bex & Dee.
Surely they will use their bat sonar to
seek and destroy once again.
But, for the moment,
my zip-lock bags remain safe.
I have regained control!
(For the next 2 minutes or so. I see Bex
and Dee heading for the china cabinet.)
I'm glad we had this talk.
Thank you and goodnight.
Elle Bee
P.S. You should know that my memories
from my physics classes have long since
bought the farm, and that I may have
loosely interpreted the 2nd law of
thermodynamics just a teensy weensy bit
to mean whatever I please.
But everything I said about bat sonar?
Completely legit.

That looks really scary, very funny! Hmmm see how long the child lock works!

So cute? And of the two is there a "leader" and a "follower"? Or do they both forge ahead into chaos and distruction?

Hee Hee! Too cute! On my blog today, I am featuring The Super Twins who have twin tornadoe powers! We are on the same page today!

ha1ha1ha!...the maximum entropy to your universe has yet to come!!! i guess, you'll find the thought scary and yet you will reflect those in the years to come with big smile!

oh! look at them, they are adorable!

Your little one was watching his daddy too closely using that drill. He'll have it figured out in no time and the safety latches will be off! Great pictures. My heart goes out to you. You probably never get a moment unless they're sleeping! But what joy they bring you!!!

This post just made me laugh. You have to laugh at the messes, right? Your little ones are so sweet.

Have a great day.

Oh that made perfect sense to me, Belle! Gosh, your life makes me tired! :) Glad your hubby hero came to your rescue with the child safety locks, but as smart as those two are, they'll have them figured out in no time! :) Good luck!

Have a great of (twin) adventure!

Oh no! Not the zip-lock bags and the tupperware! hahaha

p.s I didn't know you were a physicist ;)

No wonder your house is so clean all the time!! You've got child labor going on over there doing deep cleaning! LOL! I remember my daughter would open the drawers, just so, and then climb up them to the counter... turkey.

your universe is plurally awesome, youre so smart...I need your vocabulary can that be found with sonar too? Dee's curls make my eyes melt (direct quote from Miss Elle herself)

Wow... that was a truly amazing post... love it! I just call my house a pigsty. :-) Thanks for the compliment on my girls flower girl dresses... the ones I did for a wedding before this one were actually a little more amazing... I should have linked to those posts... click on the weddings label if you'd like to see them. Hope you keep learning to sew---it is so much fun! :-) Stop by anytime!

That looks familiar sight to when before we put child locks on. Now a coupld years later they can open the cupboards by themselves the child locks have no handle on them! Cute Cute!!

HUH?! Just kidding ... sounds perfect sense to me. They are ADORABLE.

I had 3 all 11 months apart that were like triplets ... oh, what they could get into ... interesting world they create for parents.

Enjoy! It will end all too soon ... TTFN ~Marydon
PS TY for popping by to visit my gardens.

Elle,

You know that Bex and Dee will have those child locks mastered in minutes right? Can't wait for those precious pictures!

Kids just have the uncanny ability to figure stuff out long before adults do. So why make child proof anything! I still can't open my child proof lids on my meds. I guess I need to ask my kids for help!

Take it from a twin who was 18 months old, found my mom's contact lens case while she was napping and we both had a field day with them. Unfortunately, our mom got out of bed and stepped on them and ground them under her feet.

With twins, anything is possible!!!

It is bitter sweet, isn't it to see your babies get into things..
One one hand you are happy that they are inquisitive and learning through their daily experiences.
On the other hand, however, I does make a mess that you as the mom mut clean up in addition to the thousand and one OTHER things you must do.

I love the physics lesson and the comparison of it with your babies!

Not to scare you but my twins now hand me the child locks after they have removed them from the cabinets...at least they give them back to me!

Ha! That mess looks like what Timmy did to my bathroom yesterday. It is quite unbelievable how much damage they can do in such a short amount of time and how FUN and HILARIOUS it is to them!

seek and destroy....that cracked me up !
I love babies....especially since mine are 21 and almost 18....

Sometimes we just have to stand back and let the natural forces take over. It's either that or lose my sanity trying to keep things orderly... :)

Wow, this brings back memories (or PTSD). I had locks on everything, but they managed to pick them:) Just keep taking pictures so someday they will realize what they put you through and hopefully will send mother's day cards!
